You voted, We listened! No selling fundraisers!!

Northstar and West Elementary will be holding their Fall Fundraiser, the first annual Jog-A-Thon, next week. West is October 11 and North is October 13. All proceeds go to the schools. We have set a goal of $20,000. West is working on a color document printer and North is working on getting an iPad in each classroom!

Every student gets a Panther wristband and snack for participating. Each student will also get a chance to win an IPod Shuffle just for jogging. Students who raise $100 or more in pledges will receive a T-Shirt.

The Knoxville PTO is looking for volunteers to help both days! They have different time slots available and could really use your help. Please send an email to rsroberts@mchsi.com if you can help and we will get you on the schedule.

You are also invited to come during your child's scheduled jog time to help cheer the kids on. A schedule is attached with each classroom's jog times.

Knoxville Elementary PTO 1st Annual Jog-a-Thon

Based on the fundraising survey we conducted last spring, the Knoxville Elementary PTO fundraising committee has made a change in fundraising this year. The majority of parents who responded to the survey indicated that they would prefer non-selling fundraisers (such as the Spell-A-Thon) vs. the selling fundraisers such as the gift wrap/food fundraisers.

We are pleased to announce that the Knoxville Elementary PTO will be holding it’s first annual Knoxville Elementary Jog-A-Thon to raise funds for our elementary schools. The Jog-A-Thon will replace our usual Fall selling fundraiser. The events will be held on two separate days:

West Jog-A-Thon: Tuesday, October 11, 2011

North Jog-A-Thon: Thursday, October 13, 2011

Students will collect pledges per laps completed or flat donations, whether the lap is ran, jogged, or walked. In addition to raising money for our schools, students will earn individual and classroom prizes as well. Since this event is organized and run by volunteers, 100% of the proceeds goes to our Elementary Schools.

We need volunteers!  Volunteer information will be sent out with the packets.  The information will also be included on the KCSD blog under We Need Help!

Please contact Jacquii Olson at jajaolson@iowatelecom.net or Sara Roberts rsroberts@mchsi.com with any questions.

Watch this blog and the KCSD blog (http://www.knoxvillecommunityschools.com/)  for details regarding the event. We will post weather related announcements/delays/cancellations at these locations.

Thank you for your continued support of our Elementary Schools!

Fall Fundraising

Labels:

Dear Parents:

Last year you may remember that we conducted a Fundraising survey.  This survey was to help assist the PTO in determining what kind of fundraising to pursue.

We asked parents to choose their preferred fundraiser type:  Selling, Non-selling (the Spell-a-thon was the example) or a combination of both.

The majority of responders chose Non-Selling as their preferred type.  Based on these results, we have decided to forgo the selling fundraiser (last year we sold Joe Corbi food/products).

This fall, we will be holding a Jog-A-Thon.  Watch this blog and the KCSD blog for details on this fundraiser.

Thank you for your continued support of our organization!

The Elementary PTO is wrapping up this year's Spell a Thon. They have had the assemblies at both North and West, celebrating the accomplishments of all of our Elementary Students. The kids did an AWESOME job spelling the words on their lists!

Here are the results from the event:

West:

Best Class: Mrs. Vanderlinden's Kindergarten class spelled 99% of the words correctly

West met their school goal. They spelled 4452 words right out of a possible 4917 (90%). They were rewarded with Extra Recess, Ice Cream, and they got to give Mr. Montgomery a pie in the face at their assembly yesterday!

West had 147 Perfect Spellers! The perfect spellers received a certificate signed by the principal, their photo on the bulletin board, and their names in the Journal Express.

Northstar:

Best Class (2-3): Mrs. Helle's 2nd grade class with 88%

Best Class (4-5): Mrs. Kincaid's 5th grade class with 94%

Northstar got close to their school goal by spelling 18,307 words correctly out of 21,374 (86%). They will also receive an ice cream social on Friday.

Northstar had 121 Perfect Spellers! They also receive a certificate signed by the principal, photo on the bulletin board, and their names in the Journal Express.

As of today, the Spell a Thon brought in $13,092 for our Elementary Schools! Money is still being collected, and we will post the final results as they are available. That money will go to each elementary school to help cover the costs of field trips and their playground equipment needs.

The Knoxville Elementary PTO would like to thank everyone who helped make this a huge success! Parents, grandparents, family members, and community members for supporting the kids by pledging them. Most of all - all of the kids who worked so hard on their lists! Way to go Panthers!

Our Hamhock Fundraiser was a great success!  We raised $1250 - plus the PTO has committed to matching that amount.  That means that $2500 will go to the teacher's classroom funds to help buy supplies.

The Kiwani's will be presenting a check to us on Monday, December 13th, 2010.

If you helped out at this event, the Kiwanis are looking for feedback on how to change the event for next year.  Please contact Dave Garcia with your suggestions via email dkgarcia@iowatelecom.net.

Funds raised will go directly to help with classroom supplies at our elementary schools.  There are many times when something is needed for a classroom, and there just isn't funding to cover everything.  Our teachers take that responsibility upon themselves and spend their own money to fund their classroom needs.  The Knoxville Elementary PTO is trying to help alleviate some of this burden by setting up classroom funds to cover some of these costs.

The fundraiser is being held at Dyer Hudson Hall at the Marion County Fairgrounds.  There is a pre-order form for tickets on the flyer.  Tickets are $5 to pre-order and $6 at the door.  Children 5 & under are FREE! Tickets may also be purchased at the following local businesses:

Plush Pony
Valley Bank
The Next Chapter

You may also contact any of the following PTO members to purchase advance tickets:
